Janneh Kunda Kabilo Foundation Launches Interest Free Loan Scheme to Empower Members and Boost Economic Growth

The Janneh Kunda Kabilo Foundation has introduced an interest-free loan scheme as part of its strategic efforts to fulfil its constitutional objectives, specifically the goal of improving the wellbeing and socio-economic status of its members through the issuance of interest-free loan so that qualifying members can engage income-generating activities, as outlined in Article 5.01(3) of the Foundation’s Constitution.

This initiative, championed by the current Executive Committee (2024–2026), aims to provide targeted financial support to qualifying member groups in Foni, Sika, and Kombo, with each region receiving D25,000, amounting to a total disbursement of D75,000 from the Foundation’s account balance of D125,450.90. Members recognise that while this support offers significant benefits, it also places financial pressure on the Foundation, making the timely and full repayment of the loans essential to maintain sustainability and extend future support to other members.

The Foundation emphasises the collective responsibility and moral obligation of the beneficiaries to honour the trust placed in them, especially given that the funds are made possible through the subscriptions and generous donation of many members who may not directly benefit. Misuse of this opportunity would not only undermine the Foundation’s mission but would also compromise the trust and solidarity that underpin the Foundation’s work and core values and aspirations.

To ensure transparent and efficient administration of the interest-free loan scheme, a taskforce was established by the Executive Committee on 18 January 2025. The taskforce was charged with the responsibility to draft the criteria and the by-laws that will govern the administration of the interest-free loan process. These by-laws, once reviewed and approved by the membership, serve to guide the issuance, monitoring, and repayment of the interest-free loans.
